Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- GORE-TEX shell with Coreloft insulation in one
- Coreloft keeps insulating when damp
- Insulated hood with tall integrated collar
- No pit zips: heat builds on sustained climbs
- No powder skirt, pass pocket or RECCO
- Offered in M and L only
The Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket is a men's waterproof GORE-TEX jacket with built-in Coreloft synthetic insulation, made for winter hiking and everyday winter wear in wet, windy, cold weather. The combination is the point: a weatherproof outer shell and light fixed warmth in one garment, so you do not need a separate midlayer for an ordinary cold, rainy day. It is weather protection with light warmth, not a deep-winter parka and not a ski-specific jacket.
Who is the Ralle Insulated Jacket for?
This jacket suits you if you want one waterproof layer with modest built-in heat for winter walks, trail days, the commute and town use. The Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket is less suitable if you ski tour or move fast uphill, because the insulated construction has no pit zips and heat builds quickly. It is also the wrong choice if you want ski-specific equipment: no powder skirt, ski-pass pocket or RECCO reflector is fitted.
How warm and how weatherproof is the Ralle Insulated Jacket?
The Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket uses a GORE-TEX construction that is waterproof, windproof and breathable, so rain and wet snow stay out and wind does not cut through. The Coreloft synthetic fill keeps insulating when it is damp, which matters on long wet days. The warmth level is light: for standing still in hard frost, add an insulating midlayer underneath.
Which size should you choose?
Arc'teryx cuts the Ralle Insulated Jacket in a regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist and hip, with room for layers underneath. A base layer and a midlayer fit without strain; a thick down midlayer will feel bulky, since the insulation is already inside the shell. This style is offered in M and L only. Measure your chest and your back length and compare them with the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart on this page before ordering.
How is the Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket constructed?
The Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket is an insulated shell: a waterproof, windproof and breathable GORE-TEX construction with Coreloft synthetic insulation built in behind it. Coreloft is a synthetic fill, so it carries on insulating when it takes on moisture from snow, rain or sweat. The hood is insulated and adjustable, with a tall integrated collar that closes up around the chin and jaw. Internal cuff gaskets seal the sleeve ends against wind and spindrift, and articulated patterning through the arms and shoulders keeps the hem in place when you reach up with poles or a pack strap.
Is the Ralle Insulated Jacket suitable for skiing or ski touring?
Arc'teryx builds the Ralle Insulated Jacket around hiking, and that is where it works best: winter walks, trail days in sleet, commuting and shoulder-season rain. For high-output uphill travel it is the wrong tool, because the insulation sits inside the waterproof shell and there are no pit zips to dump heat. On the hill it can cover an undemanding resort day as a warm, waterproof outer layer, but it carries no powder skirt, no ski-pass pocket and no RECCO reflector. Technical alpine climbing is outside its remit as well: the hood is an insulated winter hood rather than a minimal climbing hood. Because the fill cannot be removed, you cannot dial the warmth up or down the way a separate shell and midlayer let you.
Where do you carry things in the Ralle Insulated Jacket?
Storage on the Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket is deliberately simple: two zippered hand pockets, one chest pocket and one internal dump pocket for gloves, a hat or skins-free odds and ends. That is enough for a phone, keys, a map and a pair of liner gloves, but if you expect a wall of pockets for resort days, this is a short list.
How do you wash and care for the Ralle Insulated Jacket?
Keeping a GORE-TEX garment clean keeps it breathing. Machine wash the Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket on a permanent press cycle at medium temperature, on its own, with all fastenings closed and no fabric softener. Rinse twice so no detergent residue stays in the face fabric. A front-load machine is preferable; in a top-load machine use a mesh bag. Tumble dry on permanent press at low heat. Do not bleach, do not dry clean and do not iron.
