Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Insulated GORE-TEX shell: waterproof, windproof
- Coreloft fill zoned lighter in hood and underarms
- Adjustable insulated hood with tall collar
- Offered in M and L only
- No pit zips: venting via the front zip only
- No powder skirt, pass pocket or RECCO
The Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket is a men's insulated GORE-TEX jacket for wet, windy and snowy winter weather, built for everyday wear and winter hiking rather than for one snowsport discipline. It pairs a waterproof, windproof GORE-TEX shell with light Coreloft synthetic insulation, so the warmth is sealed inside the weather layer instead of carried in a separate midlayer. The insulation is zoned: lighter in the hood and the underarm panels than in the body.
Who is the Ralle Insulated Jacket for?
Choose the Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket if you want one waterproof jacket with a modest amount of built-in warmth for the daily winter routine, the commute and cold-weather hiking. It is not the jacket for high-output uphill days: no pit zips or other venting are part of this construction, so the front zip is your only heat valve on a skin track. It is also not a static deep-cold parka, and it carries no powder skirt, ski pass pocket or RECCO reflector, so dedicated resort and freeride skiers should look at a ski-specific shell.
How warm and how weatherproof is this jacket?
Weather protection comes from a GORE-TEX laminate that blocks rain, wet snow and wind while still moving vapour outward. Warmth comes from Coreloft synthetic insulation in the body, hood and underarm panels, placed in lighter weight where bulk would get in the way. Arc'teryx positions this as light warmth: enough for moving through a cold, wet day in a base layer and a thin fleece, not enough for standing still for long periods in hard frost.
Which size should you choose?
The Ralle Insulated Jacket is cut in Arc'teryx Regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist and hip, with room for a base layer and a fleece or thin midlayer underneath. It is offered here in M and L only. Measure your chest and compare it with the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart on this page before ordering, since customer feedback on body and sleeve length is not consistent. Articulated sleeve patterning and internal cuff gaskets keep the sleeves in place when you reach overhead.
How is the Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket built?
The Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket is an insulated shell rather than a shell plus a loose liner. A GORE-TEX laminate forms the weather barrier, and Coreloft synthetic insulation sits behind it in the body, the hood and the underarm panels. Coreloft is a staple-fibre synthetic fill that keeps loft when it gets damp, which is why it works in a jacket intended for sleet, wet snow and wind rather than dry cold. The underarm and hood panels use a lighter fill weight than the body, so the insulation does not bunch where the jacket needs to move. The hood is insulated as well, adjustable, and backed by a tall integrated collar that closes the gap over a neck gaiter. Internal cuff gaskets seal the wrist, and the pocket set is deliberately simple: two zippered hand pockets, a chest pocket and one internal dump pocket for gloves or a hat.
Is the Ralle Insulated Jacket suitable for hiking, commuting and resort skiing?
Winter hiking and winter commuting are where this jacket makes the most sense. The GORE-TEX shell handles the weather, the light synthetic fill means you can leave the puffy at home, and the articulated sleeves keep the hem down when you use poles or carry a pack. On a cold, wet resort day it works as a non-specialised insulated shell over a thin midlayer, but it is not kitted out for skiing: no powder skirt, no ski pass pocket and no RECCO reflector are part of this model, and deep snow will find the hem. For ski touring or any sustained climb it is the wrong tool, because the insulation cannot be removed and there is no underarm ventilation to dump heat. Pair it with a separate hardshell plus midlayer system if you need that adaptability.
How do you wash and care for this jacket?
Care is straightforward for an insulated GORE-TEX garment. Close every zip and fastening, wash the Arc'teryx Ralle Insulated Jacket on its own on a medium-temperature permanent press cycle, and run a second rinse so no detergent stays in the insulation. A front-loading machine is preferable; in a top loader, put the jacket in a mesh bag so the hardware does not catch. Skip bleach, fabric softener, dry cleaning and the iron, since softener coats the face fabric and heat damages the laminate. Tumble dry on low, permanent press, which also helps the fill regain loft. Like all synthetic garments, washing can release plastic microfibres, so wash only when the jacket is genuinely dirty.
