What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 160 gsm SUPIMA cotton jersey, soft and airy
- Shoulder seams sit clear of pack straps
- Articulated patterning for full reach on rock
- 100% cotton: holds sweat and dries slowly
- No membrane, so no wind or water protection
- Offered in L and XL only
The Arc'teryx Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS is a men's long-sleeve climbing shirt made entirely from SUPIMA cotton, built for warm, dry days at the crag and the boulder field. The body is a 160 gsm long-staple cotton jersey, the contrast fabric a 225 gsm 1x1 rib, and the shoulder seams are placed to sit clear of pack straps. At 239 g it is a substantial jersey rather than a light summer tee, with a graphic on the back.
Who is the Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS for?
This Arc'teryx long-sleeve shirt suits climbers and boulderers who want a hard-wearing cotton top for mild weather, and it carries over well to hiking approaches, travel and everyday wear. It is not a technical layer: skip it for skiing, ski touring and freeride, and do not use it as a moisture-wicking base layer under a shell during high-output winter activity. It is also not designed as a sun-protection layer.
How breathable is 160 gsm SUPIMA cotton?
The Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS is a single-layer, uncoated cotton jersey knit at 160 gsm, so air moves through the fabric freely and the shirt feels cool on a hot belay. There is no membrane and no insulation, which means no wind protection, no water protection and no warmth once the temperature drops. Cotton also absorbs sweat and rain and dries slowly, so a cold or sustained wet day calls for a synthetic or merino top instead.
Which size should you choose?
Arc'teryx cuts the Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS in a regular fit, comfortable through chest, waist, hip and thigh, and roomy enough to wear over or under another layer. Compare your chest and sleeve measurements with the size chart on this page before ordering. If you fall between two sizes, the larger size gives a looser feel and the smaller size a closer one. Here the shirt comes in L and XL only.
What is SUPIMA cotton and how is this shirt constructed?
SUPIMA is long-staple cotton: the longer fibres spin into a smoother, more even yarn, which is why the 160 gsm jersey body of the Arc'teryx Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS feels soft against the skin. The contrast panels use the same SUPIMA cotton in a heavier 225 gsm 1x1 rib. Construction is where the climbing intent shows: continuous seams run along the back of the neck, the shoulders and the sleeves and are fully bound, and the shoulder seams are positioned so they do not sit under pack straps. Articulated patterning keeps the sleeves and shoulders free when you reach.
Is the Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS good for climbing and bouldering?
Rock and boulder are what this shirt was made for. On a warm, dry session the 239 g cotton jersey takes rope burn, chalk and granite contact without feeling fragile, the long sleeves cover your forearms against abrasive rock, and the bound shoulder seams stay comfortable on the walk in with a loaded pack. It works the same way on a hike or a travel day. Where it stops is weather: with no membrane, no insulation and nothing to shed rain, the Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS is out of its depth in cold, wind or persistent damp, and 100% cotton will chill you once it is soaked. Treat it as a fair-weather shirt, not as part of a layering system for the mountains in winter.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
The Arc'teryx Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS is 100% SUPIMA cotton throughout, jersey in the body and rib in the contrast. Cotton of this weight holds colour and shape well if you treat it simply: machine wash low, wash this near-black Black / Arctic Silk colourway separately from lighter items, and tumble dry gentle on low heat. Skip bleach, skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and dulls the hand feel, and skip dry cleaning. If you iron it, turn it inside out and use a low setting so the back graphic is not pressed directly.
How sustainable is the Kragg SL Cotton Bird Tile Shirt LS?
The shirt is PFAS compliant and Fair Trade Certified. Fabric production, dyeing and manufacture all take place in Colombia, with sewing at NICOLE S.A.S., so the supply chain for this Arc'teryx shirt stays in a single country rather than being split across continents.
