What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

  • 2 mm lugs: little bite in deep mud or snow

The Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe is a men's pull-on approach shoe with a collapsible heel: keep the heel up for the walk in to the crag, then fold it down and wear the shoe as a belay or camp slipper. A Vibram Megagrip rubber outsole and a moulded rubber toe cap carry it over dry trails and rock, at a stated weight of 320 g. The knit-based upper is built for airflow, not for water: this shoe is neither waterproof nor water-resistant.

Who is the Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe for?

This is a shoe for climbers and boulderers who want one pair for the approach over dry trails and rock and for resting their feet between routes, plus travel and everyday wear in dry weather. The Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe is not a climbing shoe, not a hiking boot for heavy loads or multi-day trips, and not a certified slip-resistant work shoe. It has no insulation, so cold days and any ski use - piste, touring or freeride - are outside its range.

How much grip does the Kragg Shoe have?

Traction comes from a Vibram Megagrip rubber outsole with a 2 mm lug depth and a lug pattern aimed at soft surfaces and rock. Stack height is 24 mm at the heel and 17 mm at the forefoot, giving a 7 mm drop, and a removable INSITE PU drop-in midsole sits underfoot. At 2 mm the lugs are shallow for a hiking sole, so deep mud and snow give you little to bite into.

Which size should you choose in the Kragg Shoe?

The Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe has a relaxed, roomier upper and comes in half sizes from 7.5 to 10.5. Measure your foot length and compare it with the Arc'teryx footwear size chart on this page rather than going by the size you wear in other shoes. The soft drop-in midsole takes up volume; it lifts out if you need more room.

How is the Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe constructed?

The Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe is a pull-on approach shoe built around a heel that collapses. The heel is an engineered knit section with an integrated pull tab, so you can step in without hands and fold the back down into slipper mode. The rest of the upper is an engineered jacquard woven textile with a stretch-knit runway down the top for entry and airflow, and a moulded rubber toe cap in front to take the scuffs that come with rock and scree. Inside sits a removable INSITE PU drop-in midsole; underneath, a Vibram Megagrip rubber outsole with 2 mm lugs, 24 mm of stack at the heel and 17 mm at the forefoot. Stated weight is 320 g.

Is the Kragg Shoe suitable for approach hiking and bouldering days?

Yes, within a clear boundary. The Kragg Shoe from Arc'teryx is made for the walk in and out of climbing and bouldering areas on dry, rocky or dusty ground, and for crag, belay and camp use once you fold the heel flat. It also works as a travel and everyday shoe in dry conditions. Where it stops: a collapsible heel gives no heel hold and no ankle support, so it is the wrong choice for carrying a heavy pack or for multi-day backpacking. It is not a climbing shoe for technical routes, and it is not certified as slip-resistant footwear for work environments. Rain, puddles, wet grass and snow soak straight through the knit upper.

What is the Kragg Shoe made of and how do you clean it?

The Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe pairs a textile upper with a textile and synthetic lining, a synthetic PU midsole and a Vibram Megagrip rubber outsole, with rubber again at the toe cap. That mix is made for dry abrasion rather than moisture management, and it is the reason the care routine is simple: surface cleaning only. Machine washing is not recommended. Work on stains with a soft brush, warm water and a small amount of mild detergent, rinse the residue off and let the shoe air dry. Because the midsole drops out, you can take it out while the upper dries.

How sustainable is the Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe?

The Arc'teryx Kragg Shoe is PFAS compliant, meaning it is made without per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. There is no durable water repellent finish on the upper, which is consistent with a shoe that is deliberately built to breathe rather than to shed water. The shoe is made in China and is sold here in Black/Black: a black knit upper with a black rubber toe cap and outsole.
