What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. - Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 240 gsm combed cotton jersey, 215 g total
- Continuous seams at neck, shoulders and sleeves
- Gusseted underarms free your reach on rock
- 100% cotton: owners report shrinkage if dried warm
- No membrane or DWR: no rain or wind protection
- Relaxed cut, but shoulders and biceps run narrow
The Arc'teryx Kragg Cotton Little Bird Crew Shirt SS is a women's short-sleeve T-shirt in 240 gsm combed cotton jersey, built for climbing and bouldering days and for everyday wear off the mountain. It weighs 215 grams and uses continuous-seam construction along the back of the neck, shoulders and sleeves, so there is less stitching where a pack strap or harness sits. The heavyweight cotton is the point here: comfort and durability rather than weather protection.
Who is the Kragg Cotton Little Bird Crew Shirt SS for?
This Arc'teryx T-shirt suits a climber, boulderer or hiker who wants a substantial cotton graphic tee with a relaxed cut for crag days, gym sessions, approach walks, travel and after-ski hours. It is not a ski or touring layer. With no membrane and no water-repellent finish it gives nothing in rain or wind, and worn next to the skin in cold conditions damp cotton will chill you. For sustained high-output efforts, a synthetic or wool top is the better tool.
How breathable is a 240 gsm cotton tee?
The combed cotton jersey of the Kragg Cotton Little Bird Crew Shirt SS is an air-permeable natural knit and comfortable at rest, but 240 gsm cotton absorbs sweat and dries slowly. On a shaded belay or a steady hike that feels pleasant; on a hard, sweaty push it stays wet. Gusseted underarms free your reach when you top out, and the knit collar plus full seam binding keep the edges soft against the skin.
Which size should you choose?
The cut of this Arc'teryx women's T-shirt is relaxed through chest, waist, hip and thigh, and owners often describe it as pleasantly oversized in their usual size. It is sold here in S, M and L. Several owners with a climber's build report the shoulders and biceps running narrow, so size up if yours are broad. Men buying this women's style should take one size up from their usual men's size. Measure your chest and waist and compare them with the women's tops size chart on this page.
How is the Arc'teryx Kragg Cotton Little Bird Crew Shirt SS constructed?
The body is a single layer of combed cotton jersey at 240 gsm, which is heavy for a T-shirt and gives the garment a dense, settled drape instead of a thin, clingy one. Arc'teryx runs continuous seams along the back of the neck, the shoulders and the sleeves, which cuts down the number of seam ends that can bind or rub, and every seam is fully bound for a smooth inside face. Underarm gussets add fabric where the arm rotates, so the hem stays put when you reach overhead. A knit collar holds its shape, and the whole shirt comes in at 215 grams. The Bird logo is embroidered rather than printed; on the Black/Black colourway the embroidery is black on black, while White Light / White is a warm-toned off-white with white detailing.
Is the Kragg Cotton Little Bird Crew Shirt SS good for climbing and bouldering?
Yes, within the limits of cotton. Arc'teryx builds the Kragg family around rock and boulder days, and this short-sleeve crew does that job: the gussets and the relaxed body let you move on the wall, and the heavyweight jersey takes abrasion from rock, chalk and pack straps better than a lightweight tee. It also works for hiking, approach walks and travel. Where it stops is weather and sweat management. There is no membrane, no wind protection and no water-repellent finish, so a shower or an exposed ridge wind goes straight through, and the 240 gsm cotton holds moisture long after the effort has ended. Riders and ski tourers should keep it out of the layering system and use it as a cafe and campground shirt instead. Note too that one owner reports inconsistent sleeve stitching on a recent production run, with a less loose sleeve than earlier versions.
What is the Arc'teryx Kragg Cotton Little Bird Crew Shirt SS made of, and how do you wash it?
The fabric is 100% cotton throughout, with no synthetic content and no lining. That brings the comfort, and it also brings cotton's behaviour in the wash: Arc'teryx confirms a natural tendency to shrink at high temperatures, and owners report noticeable shrinkage even after a cold wash, in one case close to a full size, with the shoulders and armpits tightening first. Wash cool, keep the dryer on gentle low heat or dry the shirt flat, and skip fabric softener. Wash dark colourways separately, do not bleach, do not dry clean, and iron on low heat if you want the collar crisp.
How is this T-shirt made?
Fabric, dyeing and manufacture all happen in Colombia, with sewing at CRYSTAL S.A.S. in Pereira. The style is Fair Trade Certified and PFAS compliant, which is consistent with a garment that carries no fluorinated water-repellent finish at all.
