What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

- 320 g air-permeable Fortius DW 1.0 softshell
- UPF 50+, tested to EN 13758-2 and AS4399:2020
- Four zippered pockets, stretch cuffs, hem drawcord
- No membrane: DWR only, not for lasting rain
- No hood, powder skirt, pass pocket or RECCO
- Sleeves and back run long for shorter arms
The Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Jacket is a men's uninsulated stretch softshell for hiking, rock climbing and all-mountain days in warm, breezy weather. It weighs 320 g and is built from an air-permeable Fortius™ DW 1.0 double weave instead of a waterproof membrane, so excess heat leaves through the fabric on a steep climb. An FC0 DWR finish sheds light moisture, and the fabric carries UPF 50+ sun protection.
Who is the Gamma Lightweight Jacket for?
This jacket suits a hiker, climber or spring ski tourer who wants one light, stretchy outer layer for high-output days and who already owns a waterproof shell for real weather. It is not the jacket for sustained rain or wet snow, for cold winter days worn on its own, or for lift-served skiing and freeriding: the Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Jacket has no hood, no powder skirt, no pass pocket and no RECCO reflector.
How weatherproof and breathable is it?
The Fortius™ DW 1.0 body fabric is a 125 g/m2 double weave in 86% nylon and 14% elastane, with contrast panels in a 123 g/m2 70d nylon/spandex plain weave. Because that weave is air permeable, the Gamma Lightweight Jacket is wind resistant rather than windproof, and its water protection comes entirely from the FC0 DWR treatment, which is PFAS compliant and needs reapplying once water stops beading on the surface.
Which size should you choose?
Arc'teryx cuts the Gamma Lightweight Jacket in a regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist and hip with room for a base layer or a light midlayer underneath, and trim enough to wear under a shell. Take your usual size, because it runs true to size in girth. Centre back length is 74 cm in size M. Several wearers report that the sleeves and the back run long, so check the sleeve measurement in the size chart if you have shorter arms. Stocked here in M, L and XL.
What is the Fortius™ DW 1.0 fabric doing in this jacket?
Fortius™ DW 1.0 is a woven double weave at 125 g/m2 that blends 86% nylon with 14% elastane. The nylon carries the abrasion load, the elastane lets the fabric follow a long reach or a high step, and the weave itself is left air permeable, so warm, moist air passes straight through instead of waiting on a membrane to move it. Arc'teryx supports that fabric in the Gamma Lightweight Jacket with articulated patterning, a stretch cuff binding and an adjustable hem drawcord, and uses a 70d nylon/spandex plain weave at 123 g/m2 for the contrast panels. There is no membrane and no insulation here: the weather protection is the FC0 DWR finish on the face fabric, and the jacket has no hood.
Is the Gamma Lightweight Jacket suitable for ski touring?
For dry spring touring it works as a high-output outer layer: 320 g of jacket, a weave that vents while you are skinning, a full-length front zip, two zippered chest pockets and two zippered hand pockets. Where the Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Jacket stops is weather. Without a hood, your head gets no cover in falling snow, and the DWR finish handles a few flakes or a short shower rather than a wet descent. It is equally at home on a summer hike, on rock and bouldering days where the stretch matters, and as a travel or everyday layer. For storm days, resort skiing and freeriding, carry a waterproof hooded shell and treat this as the layer you climb in.
What is it made of and how do you care for it?
The Gamma Lightweight Jacket is all woven nylon with elastane for stretch, which keeps it compact and quick drying but also means the water repellency is a finish rather than a built-in barrier. Machine wash it at a low temperature, run a double rinse, and skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and dulls the DWR. Tumble dry on low, iron on low if needed, and do not bleach or dry clean. Wash the dark colourways separately. When water stops beading on the surface, reapply a DWR treatment to bring the repellency back. The three colourways are flat matte wovens: Dk Stratus is a dark blue-grey, Habitat a muted grey-green, and Black a near-black.
How sustainable is this Arc'teryx softshell?
The Fortius™ 1.0 softshell fabric is made with recycled nylon, and the shell and lining materials are bluepass materials that include content produced through processes meeting bluesign® criteria. The DWR finish on the Gamma Lightweight Jacket is PFAS compliant. Fabric and dyeing take place in Taiwan and China; the jacket is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified™ facility, YOUNGONE (CEPZ) LTD in Bangladesh. As with any synthetic garment, washing can release plastic microfibres, which is one more reason to wash it only when it needs it.
