What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Air-permeable softshell, built for high output
  • Gusseted underarms: hem stays put overhead
  • Adjustable low-profile StormHood
  • No membrane: wets through in sustained rain
  • Elasticated hem, no drawcord to cinch
  • Fitted cut: no room for a thick midlayer

The Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Hoody is a women's uninsulated softshell jacket for hiking, rock climbing and bouldering in dry or lightly wet weather. What sets it apart is an air-permeable woven softshell face fabric with mechanical stretch: it vents heat continuously while you are working hard, instead of sealing you in behind a waterproof membrane. The Fitted cut lets it work either as a breathable outer layer or as a stretch mid layer under a hardshell.

Who is the Gamma Lightweight Hoody for?

This is a jacket for a woman who hikes and climbs and wants one light, stretchy hooded layer for high-output days in changeable but not genuinely wet conditions. It suits you if you are happy with a close-fitting cut and a fixed, elasticated hem. It is not the jacket for sustained rain, for cold days worn on its own, or for resort skiing and freeride: the Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Hoody has no insulation, no powder skirt, no ski-pass pocket and no RECCO reflector.

How weather-resistant and breathable is the Gamma Lightweight Hoody?

Weather protection in the Gamma Lightweight Hoody comes from a durable water-repellent finish on a woven softshell face fabric, not from a membrane with taped seams. Showers and wet snow bead up and run off; prolonged rain will eventually wet through. The same fabric is deliberately air permeable, which is why breathability is the strong point and wind protection is only partial — in strong, cold wind you will want a shell over the top.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx classes the Gamma Lightweight Hoody as Fitted: patterned close through chest, waist, hip and thigh, with room for a thin first layer underneath and enough trimness to disappear under an outer shell. Use the Arc'teryx women's tops size chart on this page and measure your chest and waist before ordering. Offered in S, M and L. If you want space for a thick fleece underneath, this cut is not the one.

How is the Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Hoody constructed?

The Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Hoody is built from an air-permeable woven softshell with mechanical stretch, so the jacket moves with you rather than resisting you — useful when you are reaching for a hold or pushing with poles. The fabric carries a durable water-repellent finish, which sheds light precipitation without blocking airflow. Articulated patterning through the sleeves and gusseted underarms mean the hem stays down when you raise your arms overhead. The adjustable low-profile StormHood tightens to the head, two zippered hand pockets take the essentials, and the cuffs and bottom hem are elasticated.

Is the Gamma Lightweight Hoody suitable for hiking, climbing and alpine days?

Hiking and all-mountain use in dry or lightly wet conditions is what the Gamma Lightweight Hoody is built for, worn as the outer layer when it is breezy and showery. It doubles as a stretch mid layer under a hardshell on alpine days, and works for rock climbing and bouldering thanks to the articulated sleeves and gusseted underarms. In warm weather it serves as sun and wind cover, and it reads cleanly enough for everyday wear. Where it stops is clear: this is not a resort or freeride jacket, it has no insulation to keep you warm while standing still, and heavy or all-day rain asks for a waterproof shell instead. The hem is elasticated only, with no drawcord, so you cannot cinch the waist shut against spindrift.

What should you know about the fabric and the care of this softshell?

The Arc'teryx Gamma Lightweight Hoody is a stretch-woven softshell, and its performance depends on the face fabric staying clean and the water-repellent finish staying alive. Machine wash on a low temperature, double rinse, and skip the fabric softener — softener coats the fibres and flattens the water repellency. Tumble dry on low, or iron on low if the fabric needs reviving. Do not bleach and do not dry clean. Wash dark colourways separately. Be aware that washing synthetic fabrics can release plastic microfibres into the environment, so wash only when the jacket actually needs it.

Which colour should you pick?

The Gamma Lightweight Hoody comes in Atmos/Solitude, a pale grey body in a two-tone combination, in Black, which reads as a near-black solid, and in Mallow. If you climb on dusty rock or carry a pack with a dirty hipbelt, note that light colourways show dirt noticeably faster than the black.
