What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Air-permeable softshell, vents heat on climbs
  • No Slip Zip front zip, windflap and chinguard
  • Brushed inner face, soft against bare skin
  • No hood: cover comes from helmet, hat or shell
  • DWR only, wets out in sustained rain
  • No insulation, too cool for standing still

The Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's is an uninsulated stretch softshell for hiking, rock climbing and alpine days in dry, windy or showery weather. It is built without a waterproof membrane: the air-permeable face fabric carries a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, so wind and light rain stay out while body heat escapes on a steep climb. It has no hood, which keeps the collar clean under a helmet or a second shell.

Who is the Gamma Jacket Women's for?

This is a jacket for a woman who moves fast in the mountains in spring, summer and autumn and wants wind and shower protection with full freedom of movement, while already owning a waterproof shell for the days it really rains. It is not the right choice if you want one jacket for storm days, if you need an integrated hood, or if you want warmth on its own: the Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's has no insulation at all.

How weatherproof is a softshell without a membrane?

The DWR finish and the tight weave of the Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's handle mist, wind and light to moderate showers. In sustained rain the fabric wets out, so for prolonged downpours and wet snow you want a taped waterproof shell instead. Because the construction is air-permeable rather than membrane-based, it breathes better than a hardshell but is less wind-tight in strong, cold wind.

Which size should you choose?

The Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's has a Regular fit: cut through chest, waist, hip and thigh with room for a base layer and a light midlayer, and slim enough to wear under a hardshell. Order your usual size and check the Arc'teryx women's tops size chart on this page first. If your arms are long relative to your chest measurement, pay particular attention to sleeve length. This style is stocked in S, M and L.

How is the Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's constructed?

The Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's is a single-piece stretch softshell rather than a layered membrane shell. The outer face is treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish and backed by a brushed inner face that feels soft enough to wear directly against the skin, with a mesh lining through the body. Because the construction is air-permeable, moisture vapour moves out through the fabric instead of relying on pit zips. Articulated patterning through the sleeves and shoulders keeps the hem and cuffs in place when you reach overhead on rock, and the No Slip Zip front zipper runs behind a windflap with a chinguard so the top of the zip does not sit against your jaw.

Is the Gamma Jacket Women's suitable for ski touring?

As a breathable outer layer on the way up, yes. The stretch and the air-permeable fabric of the Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's suit high-output winter days, and the jacket also works as a mid layer under a waterproof hardshell when the weather turns on the descent. Where it stops is lift-served skiing: there is no powder skirt, no lift-pass pocket and no hood, and the jacket carries no insulation, so standing still in the cold or riding a chairlift in wet snow needs a different garment. For resort storm days, treat this as a layer in a system, not as outerwear.

What are the pockets and adjustments?

The Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's has a zippered chest pocket for a phone or a map and two hand pockets. The hem is adjusted by a drawcord so you can seal out draught under a harness or a pack hipbelt, and the cuffs use partial elastic rather than hook-and-loop tabs, which keeps bulk down under gloves. Branding is restrained: one embroidered logo on the front left, with nothing at the back of the neck to rub under a pack strap.

How do you care for the Gamma Jacket Women's?

Machine wash the Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's on a low temperature, wash dark colours separately and use a double rinse so no detergent residue is left in the fabric, since residue reduces the effect of the DWR finish. Skip fabric softener and bleach entirely. Tumble dry on low or iron on low to help reactivate the water repellency; do not dry clean. Note that washing this fabric can release plastic microfibres into the environment, so wash only when the jacket actually needs it.

Which colours is it available in?

This style of the Arc'teryx Gamma Jacket Women's comes in Alpenglow and Black, in sizes S, M and L.
