What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.

Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

Product information
  • 220 gsm double weave with 10% elastane stretch
  • Helmet-compatible StormHood with laminated brim
  • UPF 50+ fabric, PFAS-compliant FC0 DWR finish
  • No membrane: wets out in sustained rain
  • No insulation at all, so no standalone warmth
  • Fitted cut: no room for a thick midlayer

The Arc'teryx Gamma Hoody Women's is an uninsulated stretch-woven softshell jacket for hiking, rock climbing and bouldering in cool, dry to lightly damp conditions. It is built around a 220 gsm Wee Burly™ Double Weave face fabric with 10% elastane and a brushed backer, so it stretches with every reach and sheds light showers rather than sealing you in. There is no membrane and no insulation: this is an air-permeable outer layer for fair weather, or a midlayer under a hardshell.

Who is the Gamma Hoody Women's for?

It suits a woman who hikes, scrambles and climbs year-round and wants one stretchy, breathable, wind-resistant layer that already owns a waterproof shell and an insulating piece for worse days. The Arc'teryx Gamma Hoody Women's is not the jacket for sustained rain, for standing still in the cold, or for resort and freeride skiing in cold wind and at speed, where a GORE-TEX hardshell belongs.

How weatherproof is the Gamma Hoody Women's?

Weather protection comes from the dense double weave itself plus an FC0, PFAS-compliant DWR finish: light precipitation beads up, sustained precipitation eventually gets through. The fabric is wind resistant rather than windproof, because it stays air-permeable, which is exactly what keeps you dry from the inside on a steep climb. The fabric is also rated UPF 50+ over covered areas, with protection reduced when stretched or wet.

Which size should you choose in the Gamma Hoody Women's?

Arc'teryx cuts the Gamma Hoody Women's as a Fitted garment: close through chest, waist, hip and thigh, with room for first layers and enough trim shaping to wear it under an outer shell. Centre back length is 66 cm in size S, with a drop back hem. Check your chest and waist against the women's tops size chart on this page. A thick fleece underneath will not fit comfortably.

How is the Arc'teryx Gamma Hoody Women's constructed?

The Arc'teryx Gamma Hoody Women's uses a single structural fabric rather than a laminate: Wee Burly™ Double Weave at 220 gsm, with a hard-wearing outer face and a brushed backer against the skin that adds comfort and light warmth only. Ten percent elastane gives four-way give for high steps and overhead moves. There is no membrane and no taped seam construction, so breathability comes from air permeability instead of a moisture-vapour rating. A warp knit mesh lining sits behind the fabric, a full-length Vislon front zip with windflap and chin guard closes it, and a No Slip Zip™ keeps that zip from creeping open. Total weight is 425 g.

Is the Gamma Hoody Women's suitable for climbing and ski touring?

Rock and boulder sessions are where the Gamma Hoody Women's is most at home: the stretch woven fabric takes rope and rock contact, the helmet-compatible StormHood™ with laminated brim pulls over a climbing helmet, and the drop back hem stays put in a harness. On spring ski tours and fair-weather skinning days it works as a breathable uphill layer that does not need venting. It stops where winter does. No powder skirt, no pass pocket and no RECCO reflector are fitted, and with no insulation and no waterproof membrane it is not a lift-served cold-day jacket. Treat it as the layer you climb and walk in, with a hardshell in the pack.

What is the Gamma Hoody Women's made of and how do you wash it?

The body is Wee Burly™ Double Weave, 220 gsm, in 56% nylon, 34% polyester and 10% elastane; the lining is 100% polyester warp knit mesh. That nylon-dominant blend is what carries abrasion, while the elastane carries the stretch, so keep both intact: machine wash on low, double rinse, and skip fabric softener and bleach, all of which coat the fibres and dull the DWR finish. Wash this Black colourway separately from lighter garments. Tumble dry normal on low heat, iron low if needed, and do not dry clean.

How sustainable is the Gamma Hoody Women's?

The Arc'teryx Gamma Hoody Women's is made with bluesign® approved materials; both the body and the lining are bluepass materials, and the body contains recycled content. The DWR is an FC0 finish and the garment is PFAS compliant. Sewing takes place in a Fair Trade Certified™ facility, Youngone Nam Dinh Company Ltd in Vietnam. As with any synthetic garment, washing can release plastic microfibres, so wash it only when it needs it.
