What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 850 fill down plus Coreloft 80 in damp zones
  • 338 g, packs into its own stuff sack
  • Down-insulated StormHood fits over a helmet
  • Fitted cut: little room for a thick midlayer
  • 15-denier face fabric snags and tears easily
  • DWR only, no membrane: not a shell for rain

The Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody is a men's lightweight down midlayer for winter alpine climbing, camp and rest stops, filled with 850 fill power European white goose down and weighing 338 grams. What separates it from a plain down jacket is Down Composite Mapping: Coreloft 80 synthetic insulation at 80 g/m² sits in the areas where moisture builds up, with down everywhere else. It is an insulating layer under a shell or on its own, not a waterproof outer jacket.

Who is the Cerium Hoody for?

The Cerium Hoody suits a climber or alpine walker who wants the most warmth per gram in a layer that packs into its own stuff sack. It works under a hardshell while moving, and on its own at a belay or at camp. It is not the jacket for a day of resort skiing in bad weather: the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody has no powder skirt, no pass pocket and no waterproof membrane. High-output activity will overheat it.

How warm is the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody?

Warmth comes from 850 fill power European white goose down, a minimum of 90% down, backed by Coreloft 80 at 80 g/m² in the damp zones. That is enough insulation for still, dry cold at rest, and the adjustable, down-filled StormHood fits over a climbing helmet. For expedition-level cold Arc'teryx places the 1000 fill Cerium SV Hoody above this model.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx cuts the Cerium Hoody Fitted: close through chest, waist, hip and thigh, with a centre back length of 72 cm in size M. It runs small, most noticeably across chest, shoulders and upper back, so broad-shouldered wearers should compare their measurements with the size chart on this page and take the next size up. Sizes run XS to 3XL. Plan it over a base layer or a thin midlayer, not over a heavy fleece.

How is the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody built?

The shell of the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody is Arato 15, a 15-denier recycled N6 microrip nylon, jigger dyed and coloured with dope dyed yarns, finished with a PFAS compliant FC0-DWR treatment. Inside sits a 10D x 20D ripstop nylon liner that Arc'teryx describes as downproof and bio-derived. The insulation is split by design: 850 fill power European white goose down for loft and compressibility, and Coreloft 80 polyester at 80 g/m² in moisture-prone zones, because down loses loft once it is soaked. Articulated patterning, a reverse coil centre-front zipper with TPU pulls, stretchy cuffs and a hem drawcord complete it. Black Sapphire is a very dark blue-grey, Black is near-black; both in a low-luster matte finish.

Is the Cerium Hoody suitable for ski touring or freeriding?

Arc'teryx lists the Cerium Hoody for alpine, rock, hiking and resort use, and that list is honest about where the jacket stops. On an alpine route it is the layer you pull on at the belay and stuff back in the pack: 338 grams, into its own stuff sack, which is attached inside the internal chest pocket and can be removed by undoing the loop. For ski touring and freeriding it is a weak primary choice. Wet snow, pack straps and ski edges all work against a 15-denier face fabric and against down, and snag damage with down escaping is a real risk with fabric this light. In sustained rain or wet snow you want a membrane over the top, since a DWR finish only sheds light moisture.

What is the Cerium Hoody made of and how do you wash it?

Body: 100% recycled nylon. Liner: 100% nylon ripstop. Fill: 100% white goose down at 850 fill power, plus 100% polyester Coreloft 80. Wash the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody on a gentle, low-temperature machine cycle, ideally in a front loader or in a mesh bag in a top loader, with a double rinse and no fabric softener. Tumble dry gentle and low with a few tennis balls to break up clumped down. No bleach, no dry cleaning, no iron, and wash dark colours separately. One practical detail: the hand pockets are unlined, although they sit behind the insulation.

How sustainable is the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody?

All down in the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody is certified to the Responsible Down Standard by IDFL (No. TE-99950273). The jacket is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified facility in Vietnam, the face fabric uses recycled nylon coloured with dope dyed yarns, and the materials are bluesign approved, with the padding a bluepass material. The DWR finish is PFAS compliant, and the liner uses a plant-based material that reduces petroleum content. Like all synthetic textiles, the jacket can release plastic microfibres during washing.
