What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 300 g three-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell
  • Helmet-compatible StormHood plus pit zips
  • PFAS-free ePE membrane, FC0 DWR finish
  • Uninsulated: warmth depends on your layers
  • No powder skirt or pass pocket for resort days
  • Fitted cut: no room for a thick midlayer

The Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's is a 300 g three-layer GORE-TEX ePE hardshell built for hiking and alpine travel in wet, windy weather. It carries no insulation at all; the point of this shell is low weight and packability combined with full features — pit zips, a helmet-compatible StormHood and a RECCO reflector. The ePE membrane is free from intentionally added PFAS and the face fabric is a recycled, partly plant-derived nylon.

Who is the Beta SL Jacket Women's for?

This is the shell for a woman who moves in the mountains year-round and wants one light waterproof layer that handles hiking, alpine travel, approach and scrambling, and doubles as rain and travel protection. It is not a resort jacket: there is no powder skirt, no pass pocket and no extended ski cut, so if most of your winter is spent on lifts and groomers, choose a dedicated ski style. It is also not the right choice where abrasion matters more than grams, such as sustained rock or ice contact and heavy haul work.

How waterproof and breathable is the Beta SL?

The construction is three-layer GORE-TEX ePE with a GORE C-KNIT backer, in a 40dx70d plain-weave recycled nylon with an FC0 DWR finish. That means a waterproof, windproof membrane laminated between the face fabric and a knitted backer, with pit zips for when you are working hard uphill. Arc'teryx notes that face fabrics over ePE membranes can wet out slightly faster on the surface; the membrane stays waterproof, and a wash and tumble dry brings the beading back.

Which size should you choose in the Beta SL Jacket Women's?

Arc'teryx cuts the Beta SL as a Fitted garment: close through chest, waist, hip and thigh. It is offered here in S, M and L, and the centre back length is 70 cm in size S. Measure yourself against the women's tops size chart on this page rather than guessing. A lightweight down hoody in the same size fits underneath; a thick fleece does not.

How is the Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's built?

The Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's is a three-layer laminate: a 40dx70d plain-weave recycled nylon face, a GORE-TEX ePE membrane with PU, and a GORE C-KNIT backer bonded on as the third layer. Because the backer is laminated rather than hung, there is no separate lining to shift or cling when you pull the jacket on over a base layer. The face fabric is dope dyed and finished with an FC0 DWR. Contrast panels use the same 40dx70d three-layer GORE-TEX ePE recycled nylon, with a 100% nylon backing. Articulated patterning, adjustable Velcro cuffs and a dual hem adjustment with one cinch on each side let you seal the jacket down without taking a hand off your poles for long.

Is the Beta SL Jacket suitable for ski touring?

Yes, as a light outer shell. The Beta SL Jacket Women's has a helmet-compatible StormHood with adjustment points, pit zips for the climb and a RECCO reflector, and at 300 g it is light enough to carry in a pack on the chance of weather. Where it stops is the lift-served day: no powder skirt, no dump pockets, no goggle pocket and no extended ski cut, so snow and spindrift have fewer barriers than on a resort jacket. Mild resort days are fine; a season of them is not what the SL construction was drawn for. Note also that the StormHood has no stow zipper or storage area, so it stays up on your shoulders when you do not need it.

What is the Beta SL made of and how do you wash it?

Both the body and the contrast panels are 100% nylon with an ePE and PU membrane, which keeps care simple. Machine wash medium, separately, with all fastenings closed, and give it a double rinse. Skip fabric softener and bleach. Tumble dry on medium heat and take it out as soon as it is done. Do not iron and do not dry clean. Washing and drying is also how you reactivate the DWR once water stops beading on the surface — worth knowing, because the finish on the shoulders wears down faster under loaded backpack straps and needs refreshing there sooner than elsewhere. No washing or re-proofing is needed before you wear it the first time.

How sustainable is this hardshell?

The GORE-TEX ePE membrane is free from intentionally added PFAS and the jacket is listed as PFAS compliant, with a fluorocarbon-free FC0 DWR. The plain-weave face fabric is recycled nylon, bio-based and made in part with plant-derived fibres, and it is dope dyed, a process that colours the fibre rather than the finished fabric. The jacket contains materials produced through processes meeting bluesign criteria and is Fair Trade Certified. It is sewn in Vietnam, with fabric and dyeing from China. Like other synthetic garments, it can release plastic microfibres when washed.
