What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Helmet-compatible StormHood on a GORE-TEX shell
  • Pit zippers vent heat without opening the front
  • Packable shell with built-in RECCO reflector
  • No insulation: warmth comes from your midlayer
  • Fitted cut: tight over a thick midlayer
  • No powder skirt or pass pocket for resort days

The Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's is a light, packable GORE-TEX hardshell built for hiking and alpine travel in wet, windy weather. It has no insulation at all: it is a pure waterproof and windproof outer layer that works over your own midlayer. The Superlight (SL) construction, the helmet-compatible StormHood and the RECCO reflector make it a mountain shell rather than a town rain jacket.

Who is the Beta SL Jacket Women's for?

This is the jacket for a woman who wants one shell that lives in the pack and comes out when the weather turns: hiking, alpine days, ski touring, and everyday rain and wind. The Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's is not a resort ski jacket. There is no powder skirt, no pass pocket and no goggle pocket, and the cut is shorter than a dedicated ski jacket. If you ski lift-served days every weekend, or if you stand still in the cold, look at an insulated model instead.

How much weather protection does this GORE-TEX shell give?

Protection comes from a GORE-TEX membrane with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish on the face fabric, so rain beads up before it soaks in. Pit zippers let you dump heat on a climb without opening the front zip, and the StormHood is cut to fit over a helmet. A RECCO reflector is built in. Because the Beta SL Jacket Women's carries no fill, its warmth is entirely the warmth of what you wear underneath.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx cuts the Beta SL Jacket Women's Fitted: close through chest, waist and hip, with a low profile so it sits under a pack or a further outer layer. It is offered in S, M and L. Check your chest and waist measurements against the Arc'teryx women's tops chart on this page. A base layer and a light midlayer fit in your usual size; over a thick insulated jacket, this cut runs out of room.

How is the Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's constructed?

The Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's is a laminated waterproof shell: a GORE-TEX membrane behind a face fabric finished with DWR, so water beads on the surface and wind is stopped outright. The SL in the name is the brand's Superlight designation, which tells you the priority order: low weight and small packed volume first, heavy-duty abrasion resistance second. Articulated patterning keeps the sleeves with you when you reach overhead. The detailing is deliberately short: a full-length front zip, two zippered hand pockets, an internal chest pocket, adjustable cuffs with Velcro closure, pit zippers and a helmet-compatible StormHood.

Is the Beta SL Jacket Women's suitable for ski touring?

Yes, as a shell. On a touring day the Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's rides packed for the climb, goes on at the col, and seals out wind-driven snow over your midlayer; the StormHood clears a helmet and the pit zippers handle the heat of a skin track. The RECCO reflector adds a search signal. Where it stops is the resort: no powder skirt to seal against deep snow, no pass or goggle pocket, and a shorter hem than a ski-specific jacket. It also stops short of hard rock and ice work as a primary use, because the Superlight build is not the brand's abrasion-first construction.

What does this jacket not do?

Three honest limits. The Beta SL Jacket Women's has no insulation, so on a cold, static day it is only as warm as your layers. The Fitted cut leaves limited room over a bulky midlayer or an insulated jacket. And the hood cannot be stowed away, so it always sits on the collar. Of the colourways, Solitude is a light, neutral grey; the other shades are named rather than described.

How do you wash and care for the Beta SL Jacket Women's?

Care is straightforward and worth doing, because a clean shell breathes better. Close all fastenings, wash the Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Women's separately on a medium machine wash with no fabric softener, and run a double rinse so no detergent stays in the laminate. Tumble dry on medium. Do not bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean, and take it out of the machine as soon as the cycle ends rather than leaving it wet. Expect the DWR on the shoulders to wear first under pack straps; reapply a water-repellent treatment there when rain starts to soak in rather than bead. That is the finish wearing out, not the membrane.

Gore-Tex
Gore-Tex is a high-quality waterproof and breathable technology that provides protection against rain, snow, and wind. The membrane contains microscopic pores that are large enough to allow moisture to escape, yet small enough to block water from entering. This keeps you dry and comfortable during activity and in changing weather conditions. Known for its durability and reliable performance, Gore-Tex is a popular choice in winter and outdoor apparel where comfort and protection are essential.
