Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Coreloft insulation inside a 2-layer GORE-TEX shell

- Hidden RECCO reflector in the left sleeve
- Fixed insulation: warmth cannot be adjusted
- No powder skirt and no ski-pass pocket
- Stocked in M and L only
The Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket is a men's insulated waterproof shell: a two-layer GORE-TEX construction with Coreloft synthetic insulation built in behind the membrane. It is made for cold, wet winter days in the mountains — alpine outings and winter hiking — where you want one jacket instead of a shell plus a separate midlayer. The insulation is permanent, which is both the appeal and the limit.
Who is the Beta Insulated Jacket for?
This jacket suits the skier or winter hiker who wants waterproof, windproof and insulated protection in a single layer and accepts that the warmth is fixed. It also works for cold-weather walking and everyday winter wear. It is not for high-output uphill travel such as ski touring or skinning, where you cannot strip the insulation out, and not for mild or spring conditions, where an insulated shell quickly becomes too warm. It is not meant to be worn as a midlayer under a second jacket, and it carries an embroidered chest logo, so it is not a logo-free option.
How warm and how weatherproof is the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket?
Warmth comes from Coreloft synthetic insulation through the body and sleeves; weather protection from a two-layer GORE-TEX membrane with a DWR finish on the face fabric. Arc'teryx assigns no temperature rating to its garments, so judge it by what it is: a mid-weight insulated shell for conditions around and below freezing. Venting is limited to the pit zips and the full two-way separating front zipper.
Which size should you choose?
The Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket is cut in the brand's Regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist and hip, with room for a base layer and a thin to mid-weight midlayer underneath. Arc'teryx revised its men's fit in recent years, so measure yourself and compare against the men's tops size chart on this page rather than relying on an older Arc'teryx jacket. This shop stocks M and L.
How is the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket constructed?
The Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket combines a two-layer GORE-TEX shell with Coreloft synthetic insulation, so the waterproof and windproof membrane sits directly behind the face fabric and the insulation is carried inside the jacket rather than in a separate garment. The face fabric has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish, which keeps the outer surface from wetting out and saturating. Articulated patterning at the sleeves keeps the cuffs down when you reach overhead. The helmet-compatible StormHood is adjustable, the cuffs close with die-cut hook-and-loop adjusters, and two drawcords at the hem seal the bottom; there is no internal waist adjustment. Storage is two hand pockets with WaterTight zippers, one internal dump pocket and one zippered internal security pocket. A hidden RECCO reflector sits in the left sleeve.
Is the Beta Insulated Jacket suitable for skiing and ski touring?
Arc'teryx lists alpine use and hiking as the intended activities for the Beta Insulated Jacket and states that it can be used for skiing, but that it was not designed specifically as a ski jacket. On resort days that distinction matters: there is no powder skirt and no ski-pass pocket, and the hidden RECCO reflector is the only snowsport-specific detail. For deep-snow freeride days, a dedicated ski jacket makes more sense. For ski touring it is the wrong tool — the insulation cannot be removed and the pit zips plus the two-way front zipper are the only substantial venting, so you overheat on the way up. Where it does work is cold, wet, moderate-output days: winter hiking, mixed alpine objectives, lift-served skiing in genuinely cold weather, and standing around in wind and sleet.
How do you care for the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket?
Machine wash the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket on a low setting, on its own, with the main zip and pit zips closed and the pocket zips open. Use a double rinse, skip fabric softener and bleach, and prefer a front-loading machine; in a top loader, use a mesh bag. Tumble dry on low, permanent press — the heat helps revive the DWR. Do not iron and do not dry clean. Repeated abrasion from backpack straps will wear the face fabric and reduce DWR performance over time; Arc'teryx treats this as normal wear and recommends re-treating the finish once water stops beading on the shoulders.
