What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 60 g/m² Coreloft keeps insulating when damp
  • 185 g and packs into its own chest pocket
  • Stretch fleece side panels vent on the climb
  • Runs large: most women should size down one
  • DWR only, no membrane: not for rain or wet snow
  • Fleece flanks are the first cold spot in wind

The Arc'teryx Atom Vest Women's is a lightweight synthetic insulated vest with 60 g/m² Coreloft insulation through the body and stretch fleece side panels that vent while you work. It weighs 185 grams, stows into its own chest pocket and clips to a carabiner, which makes it a core-warmth layer for moving fast rather than a jacket for standing still. Arc'teryx builds it with Hybrid Mapping: insulation where you need warmth, air-permeable fabric and fleece where you need to dump heat.

Who is the Atom Vest Women's for?

This vest suits an active woman who overheats in a full insulated jacket: hiking, climbing and ski touring, worn over a base layer or under a hardshell. The Arc'teryx Atom Vest Women's is not the piece for a deep-winter day on the chairlift, for belaying in cold wind, or for rain and wet snow as an outer layer. It has no hood and no RECCO reflector.

How warm is the Arc'teryx Atom Vest Women's?

Warmth comes from 60 g/m² Coreloft synthetic insulation across the front and back only. The arms are bare and the stretch fleece side panels are uninsulated, so total warmth sits well below that of an insulated jacket and the flanks are the first place you feel wind. Coreloft is a polyester fill, so it keeps insulating when damp with sweat. The Tyono 20 face fabric (20Dx20D nylon ripstop, 45 gsm) carries an FC0 DWR finish for light moisture, but there is no waterproof membrane.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx cuts the Atom Vest Women's in a regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist and hip, with articulated patterning and a stitched hem with two drawcords. This 2025 version is reported to run roomier and boxier than the previous generation, so most women should take one size down from their usual Arc'teryx size. Centre back length in size S is 66 cm. Check the women's tops size chart on this page against your own chest and waist measurements, especially if you own an older Atom vest. It is sized to layer over a base layer or a thin midlayer, not over a thick fleece.

How is the Arc'teryx Atom Vest Women's built?

The Arc'teryx Atom Vest Women's uses Hybrid Mapping, which means each body zone gets the fabric it needs. The chest and back carry Coreloft Compact 60 synthetic insulation at 60 g/m², held between a Tyono 20 shell (20Dx20D nylon ripstop, 45 gsm) and a 38 gsm 20D recycled dope-dyed nylon ripstop liner. Both fabrics are air permeable, so warm, damp air can escape instead of condensing inside. Along the flanks sit panels of Circular Knit Fleece at 215 gsm with 7% elastane, which stretch with your torso and act as permanent ventilation. The front closes with a No Slip Zip, the TPU pulls work with gloves on, and the whole vest packs into its internal zippered chest pocket.

Is the Atom Vest Women's suitable for ski touring?

Yes, as a midlayer. On a skin track the Arc'teryx Atom Vest Women's adds core warmth without the bulk of sleeves, and the mid-height collar sits cleanly under a shell collar or hood. The fleece side panels and the air-permeable face fabric let heat out on a steep climb, which is where a fully insulated jacket forces you to stop and strip. It stops short in two places. As an outer layer it handles light moisture through its DWR finish only, so sustained rain or wet snow calls for a hardshell over the top. And in static cold, on a lift or at a belay, 60 g/m² over the body with bare arms is not enough on its own.

What is the Atom Vest Women's made of and how do you care for it?

Shell and lining are 100% nylon ripstop, the insulation is 100% polyester Coreloft, and the contrast side panels are 93% polyester with 7% elastane. These are light fabrics at 45 gsm and 38 gsm, chosen for low weight and packability, which also makes them more vulnerable to abrasion than a hardshell face fabric. Treat rock, ski edges and rough packs with that in mind. Machine wash gentle at low temperature with a double rinse, wash dark colours separately, skip fabric softener and bleach, do not wring, then tumble dry gentle on low to restore loft. Do not iron and do not dry clean.

How sustainable is this vest?

The Atom Vest Women's is made with materials produced through processes that meet bluesign criteria. The insulation is a bluepass material with recycled content, the lining is recycled and dope dyed to cut water and dye use, and the contrast fleece also contains recycled content. The FC0 DWR finish on shell, fleece and lining is free from intentionally added PFAS. Sewing takes place in a Fair Trade Certified facility in Bangladesh; fabric and dyeing are from Japan. Like all synthetic garments, it may release plastic microfibres into the environment when washed.
