What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

  • FC0 DWR, no intentionally added PFAS
  • Wind resistant, not windproof or waterproof
  • No hood: the hooded version is a separate style
  • 30d face fabric, not for abrasion-heavy use

The Arc'teryx Atom SV Jacket is a men's synthetic insulated jacket for cold, damp mountain days, built around 120 g/m2 Coreloft insulation — the warmest option in the Atom family. It works two ways: as a standalone winter jacket at mid output, and as an insulating mid layer under a waterproof hardshell. The thermo-mapped layout is what sets it apart, with full-length stretch side panels that are insulated as well but flex and breathe where you build up heat.

Who is the Atom SV Jacket for?

This one is for the winter hiker and mountain user who wants damp-tolerant warmth that keeps working when the insulation gets wet, and who will pull a shell over the top when the weather turns. The Arc'teryx Atom SV Jacket is not a resort ski jacket: there is no powder skirt, no RECCO reflector and no ski-pass pocket, and this version has no hood. Skip it for high-output aerobic use in mild temperatures, where 120 g/m2 is simply too much insulation.

How warm and how weatherproof is it?

Coreloft 120 means 120 g/m2 of polyester insulation, 80% of it recycled, which holds warmth when damp. The face fabric is a 55 gsm, 30dx30d mini-ripstop nylon with a PU coating and an FC0 DWR finish, free from intentionally added PFAS. That build is wind resistant and sheds light snow, but it is not waterproof: no membrane, no water column, so sustained rain or wet snow calls for a hardshell. Total weight is 455 g.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx cuts the Atom SV Jacket in a regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist and hips, with room for a base layer or thin fleece underneath, and trim enough to ride under a hardshell. Centre back length is 72 cm at size M. Here it comes in M, L and XL; measure your chest against the size chart on this page, and take one size up if you plan to wear it over a thicker mid layer.

How is the Arc'teryx Atom SV Jacket constructed?

Three fabrics do three different jobs. The body is Tyono 30 micro-ripstop, a 30dx30d mechanical-stretch nylon weave at 55 gsm with a PU coating, specified to resist snagging, abrasion and pilling. The contrast side panels are a recycled 20d nylon plain weave at 58 gsm with 12% elastane, so they move with your shoulders and arms. Inside, a 38 gsm recycled dope-dyed 20D nylon ripstop lining slides over a base layer and resists abrasion from within. Between them sits Coreloft 120, thermo-mapped so the warmth sits where you need it and the side panels stay flexible.

Is the Atom SV suitable for skiing and ski touring?

As an insulating mid layer under a ski or alpine hardshell, the Atom SV Jacket earns its place: 455 g of Coreloft is real warmth for lift days, belays and long stops in the cold, and it layers under a shell without bunching. Worn on its own on the hill it stops short, because nothing here is ski-specific and the PU-coated shell carries no waterproof rating. For ski touring, 120 g/m2 is more insulation than most people can carry uphill without cooking; the insulated stretch panels help, but this is the warm end of the Atom range, not the aerobic end. Keep it for the descent, the summit break and the drive home.

How durable is the fabric, and how do you wash it?

The fabric weights show you the limits: 30d on the body and 20d on the stretch panels keep the Arc'teryx Atom SV Jacket light and compressible, but they are not made for grinding against rock, ice screws or ski edges. Put a hardshell over the top for abrasion-heavy work. Care is simple: machine wash gentle at low temperature, double rinse, no fabric softener and no bleach, then tumble dry gentle on low. Do not wring, do not iron and do not dry clean, wash dark colours separately, and be aware that a synthetic insulated jacket can release plastic microfibres in the wash.

What makes this a more responsible insulated jacket?

The Coreloft 120 fill is 100% polyester with 80% recycled content, and both the lining and the contrast panels are recycled nylon. All three fabrics carry an FC0 DWR finish, which is non-fluorinated and PFAS compliant. The jacket is made with bluesign approved materials and sewn at a Fair Trade Certified facility, Youngone (CEPZ) Ltd in Bangladesh, with fabric woven and dyed in Japan. One colourway is stocked here: Black, a solid matte black in a micro-ripstop face fabric.
