Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

- Three-layer GORE-TEX with DWR face finish
- Buttons into the Sabre Jacket powder skirt
- RECCO reflector and reinforced instep patch
- Only stocked in sizes M and L
- Two short thigh zips, no full-length side zips
- Uninsulated: needs a base layer in deep cold
The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant is a men's three-layer GORE-TEX hardshell pant for downhill skiing and snowboarding, built for lift-accessed freeride terrain and resort days in poor weather. It is an uninsulated shell, so the laminate handles water and wind while your layers handle warmth. What sets it apart is the pairing with the Sabre Jacket: button connectors at the seat clip into that jacket's powder skirt and close the gap between jacket and pant.
Who is the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant for?
This pant suits a resort-based skier or snowboarder who rides inbounds, drops into sidecountry on short hikes from the lift, and prefers to layer for warmth rather than buy an insulated pant. It is not built for ski touring or long uphill days, and it is not a climbing pant despite the Arc'teryx mountain heritage. If you need to pull your pant on and off over fastened ski or snowboard boots, look for a model with full-length leg zips instead.
How waterproof and breathable is the Sabre Pant?
The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant uses a three-layer GORE-TEX construction, which is waterproof, windproof and breathable in one laminate, with a DWR finish on the face fabric so surface water beads up instead of soaking in. Active venting comes from two zippered thigh vents. There is no mesh behind those zippers, so an open vent sits directly against your base layer and dumps heat fast, which is useful on a warm spring lap and worth closing in snowfall.
Which size should you choose?
This article is stocked in sizes M and L only, with no separate short or long leg option. Measure your waist, thigh and inseam and compare them with the Arc'teryx men's bottoms size chart on this page. The integrated adjustable belt at the waist and the external belt loops give you some range at the waist once the pant is on.
How is the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant built?
The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant is a three-layer GORE-TEX hardshell: face fabric, membrane and backer are laminated into one piece of material, so the pant keeps water and wind out without a loose lining flapping against your leg. A DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish on the face fabric makes snow and rain bead off the outside, which keeps the surface from saturating and lets the membrane keep breathing. At the hem, elasticated powder cuffs seal around your boots, and a reinforced instep patch protects the inside of each leg from ski and snowboard edges. A RECCO reflector is built in, so search and rescue teams with a RECCO detector can locate you.
Is the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant suitable for ski touring?
No, and the venting layout is the reason. The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant is a downhill pant: it vents through two short thigh zips and has no full-length side zips, so it cannot dump heat the way a touring pant does on a long climb, and it cannot be pulled on or off over fastened boots. Where it works is inbounds and lift-accessed riding. Two side cargo pockets take a radio, skins straps or a phone, the integrated belt holds the waist in place through repeated chairlift laps, and the button connectors at the seat join the pant to the powder skirt of the Sabre Jacket for deep snow and tree runs. Short sidecountry hikes from the lift are within its range; a full day of uphill travel is not.
Can the Sabre Pant keep you warm on its own?
Treat the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant as the outer layer of a system, not as a warm pant. There is no insulation in it, so your warmth comes from what goes underneath: a lightweight base layer on mild days, a heavier base layer or a thin fleece legging when the temperature drops. Arc'teryx notes for this model line that the fabric backer adds comfort and a little warmth but is not meant to replace a base layer. Leave room for that layer when you choose your size.
How do you wash and care for the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant?
The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant is machine washable, which matters for a shell that spends its life against chairlift seats and wet snow. Close all fastenings first, wash it separately on a medium cycle, rinse twice, and take it out of the drum straight away rather than leaving it wet. Skip bleach, fabric softener, the iron and dry cleaning, because softener and residues clog the face fabric and flatten the water-repellent finish. Tumble drying on medium heat is permitted and helps reactivate the DWR, so the outside beads water again. The care label is tucked inside the front left pocket.
